Latin America in the Spotlight

Recent significant developments in the region include Brazil embracing AI to tackle packaging challenges.

As someone who majored in Latin American studies, I always enjoy reporting on packaging activities in the region.

I’m well aware that Venezuela has been in the headlines lately, but this is not a political column. Packaging Strategies is a B2B publication focused on serious professionals offering serious solutions for packaging challenges. Also, in my “previous life” as an energy reporter, I may have explored how the revival of Venezuelan oil output could potentially impact foreign investment in Mexico’s petroleum sector, but that’s not my role here.

So on to packaging …

Brazil

We recently reported on Brazil launching an AI solution exclusively for the packaging sector.

The Inteligência de Embalagem (Packaging Intelligence) 5.0 platform is touted as the first AI solution exclusively and fully dedicated to the packaging sector and its professionals, covering the entire value chain — from materials conversion to consumption and, ultimately, recycling.

Beyond theses and dissertations, the platform consolidates content from trade associations, technical journals, technology manuals, and global industry events such as interpack and PACK EXPO. Our reporting on the platform can be found here.

Mexico

We recently reported on Aduro Clean Technologies and ECOCE, A.C. — a non-profit environmental civil association based in Mexico — entering into a multi-year framework collaboration agreement to jointly evaluate Hydrochemolytic™ Technology (HCT) as a potential chemical recycling solution for flexible and mixed plastic packaging in Mexico.

Through nationwide collection, education, and take-back initiatives, ECOCE coordinates the recovery of post-consumer packaging and channels it into recycling systems across Mexico. Its membership includes many of Mexico’s leading beverage and food groups, including global consumer brands.

The collaboration between Aduro and ECOCE aims to address one of the most challenging fractions in Mexico’s waste stream: post-consumer flexible plastic packaging. Our reporting on the collaboration can be found here.

Chile & Peru

We recently reported on LEIBINGER, the international specialist in industrial coding and marking systems, expanding its footprint in Chile and Peru through a new partnership with Antalis, ensuring even better local access to its technology, services, and technical support in these key South American markets.

The partnership ensures manufacturers throughout the region benefit from direct local support, faster technical response, and full access to LEIBINGER’s continuous inkjet (CIJ) printer portfolio, from the entry level JET ONE to the award-winning IQJET.

LEIBINGER has supported manufacturers in Chile and Peru for many years, delivering coding and marking solutions built for demanding production environments. By strengthening its regional structure through Antalis, the company is ensuring continuity for existing customers while expanding its ability to support new manufacturers entering the market. Our reporting on the LEIBINGER/Antalis partnership can be found here.

Well, that’s our latest Latin American packaging roundup. There will be more to come. And, as a world traveler, I’m looking forward to reporting on other regional packaging developments around the globe.
