There are many measures of a brand’s integrity and value. Quality, presentation, sustainability, food safety and compliance are just a few. This fall, PACK EXPO International will serve as a hub of innovation, helping packagers and processors tackle challenges in all of these areas across a range of industries.

To help brand owners, processors and manufacturers more easily source the technologies and suppliers they need, PACK EXPO International includes several pavilions and features. You’ll see them listed in this month’s cover story.

What’s New

Here is a sneak peek of just some of the innovations you can expect to see at the show:

New continuous motion vertical form, fill and seal machines: Bossar’s (bossar.com) BC-300 Servo Driven Continuous Motion Vertical Form, Fill and Seal machine improves output while maintaining careful product handling. The unit features a compact frame with minimal parts, simple and quick size changeovers; and its operator interface allows for programmable jaw motion, temperature and sealing pressure. The BC-300 can produce various packaging styles, such as: pillow bags, gusseted pillow bags, flat bottom bags with corner seals. The BC 300L is a continuous motion machine specializing in bulk liquid or viscous product, offering an optional squeeze roller station for air removal to prevent trapped product between seals. Labeling with enhanced safety, integration and flexibility: Evolabel’s (evolabel.com) FlexWipe offers users a new and compact pallet labeling system that is safe, user-friendly, fast and cost-effective. Its tactile arm, together with pivotable machine mounts, eliminate the need for guarding, reducing costs and releasing floor space while offering direct system access to operators. This labeler also gives users the ability to label fronts, sides and rear faces of pallets with Extensible Markup Language (XML) support to transfer label data and select label layout. (Booth E-10511)

Low profile caps designed to be 20% lighter: Giflor’s (giflor.it) Eco Low Profile caps for bottles and tubes have been fully tested across the entire supply chain process to enhance manufacturing convenience. Featuring a cap design that is 20 percent lighter and half the height profile of standard caps, manufacturers can increase pack out volumes by 25%, boosting efficiency. Giflor Eco Low Profile Caps for tubes are compatible with both laminated and extruded injected tubes and available in square, oval single, bicolor and round shapes. They are capable of feeding and capping in low- and high-speed lines without compromising efficiency and performance. (Booth N-6266)

Machine forms high quality stand-up pouches with spout: The Bossar (bossar.com) BMS 2.4 HFFS machine is equipped with a dual roll unwinder and a photo-eye that corrects possible film deviations during the pouch forming process. The parallel motion clamps in both bottom and vertical seals, and the film compensator seals both pouch sides. Top and bottom round corner cutting devices make partial shapes while avoiding sharp pouch edges, and triple scissors cut pouches while removing side burs originated by partial cutting dies. The latest technology is present in the BMS machines, including optical fiber, optical barriers, position sensors and vision cameras. (Booth N-5536)
