Pepsi Bottling Group has been fined $65,000 for improper labeling of bottles that prevented some consumers from redeeming the containers, according to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The company manufactured 24oz and 12oz bottles of various brands with refund information that was too small or illegible; some customers who tried to redeem the bottles, particularly at smaller convenience stores without automatic bottle return equipment, were turned away from claiming a refund. Pepsi has since corrected the problem, now printing refund information on the label rather than directly on the bottle. A majority of the $65,000 fine will fund recycling programs in New York State.
