How to attract consumers.

Now that you’ve produced a delicious food product, it’s time to begin thinking about how you will package your product to help attract consumers. Food packaging must not only be attractive, it must also be informative and follow FDA standards and state requirements.

We have come up with the following food packaging design tips to help you create food packaging that will help you stand out while also complying with federal and state requirements.

Appeal visually

One of the best ways to appeal to your customers is by attracting them visually. Having a great label with high quality photos and a well-placed logo on your product packaging will draw customer’s eye to your product over other products.

Inform your consumers

Consumers will not purchase your product if they don’t know what it is. It is very important to not only include your product name, but also a secondary description on your food product packaging. Depending on the type of food product, things like a UPC code or QR code, who manufactured or distributed the product, safe handling instructions, if it needs to be refrigerated, and usage tips can all be included as well. Make sure to also mention things that set you apart from your competitors. For example: is your product made in the USA or all natural? If so, make sure you inform your consumer of this!

Comply with food labeling requirements

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has established food labeling requirements for food products that must be included on most packaged foods. These requirements include the addition of a nutrition fact panel, ingredients list, and nutrition claims. Make sure that you are complying with all food labeling requirements when you are designing the packaging for your food product.
